Honoring Those Who Serve

The Leaven has had a close relationship with the men and women of our military for many years, and we are so proud of those who serve our nation so bravely. Tomorrow is Veteran’s day, and to honor our veterans and celebrate their service, we’ll be at Fairfield’s Veterans Day Parade tomorrow. We hope you will join us at this enjoyable day of celebration as we honor our service men and women.

<a href=”http://www.myleaven check out here.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/MG_0852.jpg”>_MG_0852We know it is important to share this respect for our Military with the Leaven kids. Our freedom and democracy isn’t free; it is earned and protected by the brave men and women who serve our nation every day. These men and women are great role models for our students and can encourage them as they work hard to succeed in school. They teach our students great lessons in service and citizenship.

We have had a long-standing partnership with the men and women of the 821st Contingency Response Group at Travis Air Force Base, and we are so grateful to them for go above and beyond the call of duty, serving not just abroad, but here at home as well.

Every year, we team up with the members of the 821st for our Valentine’s for the Troops event. This event, as part of our Leaven Gives back initiative, partners our students up with military members from Travis Air Force Base to create handmade Valentines. The 821st then takes these cards with them on their supply missions and delivers them to troops stationed abroad. These cards are our small way of reminding these service men and women that all of us back home are thinking of them, and are so grateful for their sacrifice.

And our local military members continue to go above and beyond, giving so generously to these hardworking students. Every year, members of the 821st deliver backpacks full of school supplies to many of our Leaven centers. And at Christmas, they organize an Angel Tree project so that Leaven kids can celebrate the holidays with fun presents they would not have otherwise received. This support reminds our Leaven kids that their community cares for them and their futures.

We are so proud of our Military, and so grateful for their service. We hope you’ll join us at the Fairfield Veteran’s Day parade tomorrow as we honor all of our military members – past, present and future – for their service to our nation, because they are an important part of helping kids and communities rise.
