Global Support

The Leaven is so grateful for all of the support that we have received over the years from our many partners and friends throughout the community. One of our longest partners has been Travis Air Force Base (TAFB). TAFB personnel have done so much for us, from helping us set up our centers, to delivering handmade Valentine’s cards around the world as part of their Global Supply missions.

But it’s their Angel Tree Program that our students love most. Every year, Air men and women from TAFB arrive at Leaven centers, loaded with presents for our students. There are practical gifts like warm clothes, educational gifts like books, and also fun gifts like toys and art supplies. And it’s important because these might be the only presents these children receive all year.

Programs like this are important because they help to reinforce all the lessons we teach at The Leaven, and remind these children that hard work pays off. It also reminds them that the entire community is behind them, supporting their goals. What’s more, the service men and women form TAFB have become amazing role models for our students, encouraging them as they strive to make a better life for themselves and their families.

That’s why we are so excited that Colonel Chuck Henderson, the Commander of the 621st Contingency Response Wing, visited our Dana Drive center a few days ago to see what change his unit’s support has brought to this struggling community. The 621st Contingency Response Wing consists of the 621st Air Mobility Advisory Group in New Jersey, and the 821st Contingency Response Group at TAFB. Together, these Groups provide support for our military men and women throughout the world, as well as engage in a variety of missions to help open and operate military bases throughout the world and support and advise our allies.

Colonel Henderson brought 30 of his staff from McGuire AFB in New Jersey and Travis AFB with him on his visit. It was a privilege to show them what a huge difference the 621st has made in the lives of the children we serve. Just as they support the service men and women who protect and serve our nation, they also demonstrate that commitment every day by serving our community through their support of The Leaven.

We are so thankful for our Military partners, not only for their service to our nation, but for their commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty for the neediest members of our community.
