Daily Chores

Growing up I had an ever changing list of household chores assigned to me. They changed and varied based on my age, and sometimes I would do extra for a bit of added allowance.

IMG_3035There were three chores in particular that were pretty much a consistent part of my chore rotation: dusting, cleaning the bathrooms, and unloading the dishwasher.

While I still don’t mind cleaning bathrooms, to this day I can’t stand unloading the dishwasher; and, due to years of dusting, I have a strong aversion to knick-knacks of any kind in my house. For the most part I keep my surfaces clear in my house, if only so that I don’t have to both too much with dusting every individual item.

Now that springtime is here, many of us are probably engaged in a bit of spring cleaning. While we all probably go through some deep cleanings at various times of the year, it seems that every spring, many of us will find ourselves scrubbing our home a little extra, if only to prepare for the summer ahead.

Chores, while never fun, can help keep your home looking and feeling clean and comfortable, and save you from having to spend hours cleaning your room like you might have done when you were a kid.

At our Leaven centers, we help teach kids the importance of daily upkeep. Whether it’s picking up their belongings, or making sure to read and practice their math a little bit each day. This means that when it comes time to study for an important test, they are already prepared and only need to spend a little extra time hitting the books to make sure they are ready for the important day.

Learning good habits like these early in life helps to build a strong foundation, which will in turn help them be more successful students well into the future. This method is part of why our Leaven programs are different; we don’t just help kids succeed today, but give them character traits that will serve them well into the future. And this is just part of how we are helping kids and communities rise.
