Whenever I walk down the cleaning aisles at the store, I find myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of products promising to clean my sink, floor, dishes, clothes or pretty much anything else in my house better than any others. If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried quite a few of them. And more than likely, you’ve been disappointed at least once.
I have tile floors in my house, and I had tried everything to clean the grout. Nothing really worked until I tried an old fashioned solution: baking soda and vinegar.
And presto, perfectly clean grout lines. For a fraction of the cost, this simple solution did what all the other products claimed they would quickly and easily – but didn’t.
And if you look up other uses for this dynamic duo, it seems that these two simple products can clean almost anything. Vinegar alone can remove lime built up. Add some water and dish soap and you get a cleaner that cuts soap scum like a dream. Or put the simple combo of baking soda, vinegar and water down your drain to flush a clog.
Now I’ll admit, I still use the store bought cleaners for certain tasks, but I still wonder why I’ve bought so many “worthless” cleaning products.
It’s these same principles that were behind the creation of The Leaven. When faced with gang violence and high drop-out rates, many cities are struggling to find a true solution. Solving these problems is incredibly difficult, but there is one solution that makes a huge impact, and it’s surprisingly simple.
A strong and early foundation of education.
This is why The Leaven is so successful in helpings communities rise. By partnering with schools to ensure that children succeed in school, learn to read and have a safe place to grow, we empower neighborhoods to take back their streets from the gangs. Children are the hope of a community, and when they are thriving, the community as a whole improves.
We are so grateful to the cities that have trusted us and invited us to come be a part of their solution to gangs and violence. We know that solving these difficult issues takes a lot of teamwork, and are proud to be a simple – but proven – part of the solution. Thanks for making it possible for The Leaven to help kids and communities rise.
