We talk a lot about how important our Board of Directors is to our organization, but you may not know who they are, or what their role is within our organization.
Our Board serves to lead and guide us as we help kids and communities rise. Each member comes with their own unique backgrounds and experiences; they serve to ensure that we do the best work possible, that we stay true to our principles, and that we do everything in our power to deserve the trust of you, our supporters.
But our board is also independent, meaning they are not employees of our organization. They give their time to us because they are committed to The Leaven. This also means that if at any point they feel we as an organization are making a misstep, they can speak their minds without fear of repercussions.
In short, they are a system of checks and balances for The Leaven.
So who are the men and women of The Leaven board? Let’s take a look!
Judge Mike Nail is our newest board member. He is a Judge of the Superior Court for the State of California, holding that position for more than two decades. Prior to assuming the bench, Judge Nail was District Attorney for Solano County for 11 years and Assistant District Attorney for 14 years. He and his wife attend Community United Methodist Church of Fairfield, and was a former member of the Lion’s Club and a member and past president of Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce. They have three children and five grandchildren.
Sheilah Tucker has lived in Solano County more than 30 years and is a former broadcaster and now works as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Kappel Gateway Realty. She is a member of the Fairfield-Suisun Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Travis Regional Armed Forces Committee, is past president of the Soroptimists of Central Solano and has held volunteer leadership positions with the Napa/Solano Girl Scouts and the Solano County Library Foundation.
Both of these Board members have been long time supporters of The Leaven, and they, along with their families are thrilled to be taking an even bigger role in helping kids and communities rise by serving on our board.
We’ll take a look at the rest of our board members over the next few weeks, so be sure to check back with us next week to learn more!
